Sugar Fast Day 8

I can be a morning person when I need to be. However, I am not really a 5:00 a.m. get to work at 6:00 a.m. morning person. But today I needed to be. Only a short time ago do you know what would have propelled me out of bed with a smile on my face? A trip for a morning mocha! I would have endured all the other things I was called to do, focusing on that first sip of heaven. Today was a different story. The alarm still went off at 5:00 a.m., but there was no hot, chocolate cup of coffee. Not in the middle of a sugar fast. What I discovered was there was so much more this day would offer; there would be joy beyond sugar.
Loving Others
I was given the privilege of showing love to people at work. We engaged in meaningful conversation. God painted the sky with a beautiful masterpiece. I had extra time to enjoy the quiet of a new day. Because I wasn’t focused on that one thing—coffee—I was more present with the people and the events of my morning. This day I was acutely aware of finding joy beyond a sugar fix.
I have to wonder what things I have been missing when my main focus is sugar? What joys from God have I missed?
You reveal the path of life to me;
in Your presence is abundant joy;
in Your right hand are eternal pleasures (Psalm 16:11)
