When I think about Thanksgiving, I can’t help but notice how easily we get swept up in the rush — the cooking, the cleaning, the table settings, the travel plans, and yes, even the football games. It’s a beautiful holiday, but somewhere along the way, our focus shifted from why we celebrate to how much we can accomplish. That’s why I created Hymns of Grateful Praise — a seven-day playlist of Thanksgiving hymns to help women slow down, refocus on Jesus, and experience gratitude as an act of worship.
The very first Thanksgiving wasn’t about perfection — it was about provision. In 1621, after a difficult year of loss and hardship, the Pilgrims gathered with their Wampanoag neighbors to give thanks to God for His faithfulness and the harvest He had provided. It was a moment of worship — a pause to acknowledge that every good thing came from the Lord’s hand.
That’s something I want to recapture in my own heart… and I imagine you do too.
A Season to Refocus on Gratitude
Focusing on gratitude changes everything. When my eyes move from what I lack to all that God has already given, my perspective shifts — from temporary frustrations to eternal hope. Gratitude realigns my heart with God’s faithfulness and helps me see how He’s been working all along.
That’s what inspired me to create Hymns of Grateful Praise — a seven-day playlist of Thanksgiving hymns on my YouTube channel. These songs invite us to slow down and worship through music, reminding us of who God is and how deeply we are blessed.
Each hymn carries a message that draws us back to the heart of Thanksgiving:
- Come, Ye Thankful People, Come – A call to gather and give thanks to our Provider.
- We Gather Together – A reminder that unity and praise are powerful acts of worship.
- All Creatures of Our God and King – An anthem declaring the majesty of our Creator.
- Count Your Blessings – A gentle nudge to notice God’s goodness in every detail.
- For the Beauty of the Earth – A song of wonder for the world God so carefully made.
- Now Thank We All Our God – Gratitude that endures through every season.
- Bringing in the Sheaves – Joy in the harvest that God brings forth from faithful sowing.
Worship Over Worry
Maybe this Thanksgiving feels a little heavy. Maybe you’re carrying the weight of making sure everyone else has a perfect day. If that’s you, I understand — I’ve been there too. But friend, you don’t have to strive to create the perfect Thanksgiving. What God desires most isn’t the perfect meal, but a grateful heart.
You can start your week of Thanksgiving worship by listening to the full Hymns of Grateful Praise playlist on my YouTube channel. Let these timeless songs guide your heart into gratitude and help you slow down to see Jesus in the midst of the holiday rush.
And if you want to take your reflection even deeper this season, I’d love for you to join our Advent Bible Study starting November 30. It’s a perfect way to continue focusing on God’s goodness and prepare your heart for the hope of Christ.
This Thanksgiving, let’s give thanks not just with words, but with worshipful hearts — noticing God’s faithfulness in every blessing, big and small.
Reflection Verse:
