Sugar Fast Day 24

NOTE: This blog entry is from a October of 2022 when I first did this fast.
For this is the message that you have heard from the beginning, that we should love one another. (1 John 3:11)
My heart is heavy this morning. I have a dear friend who is journeying through a health crisis. I have been in continual prayer for her, but is that enough? The command to pray without ceasing is found in Paul’s letter to the Thessalonians, but it is in the middle of a larger exhortation.
Rejoice always, pray without ceasing, give thanks in all circumstances; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you. (1 Thessalonians 5:16-18)
Rejoice
Rejoicing does not mean being happy about everything. Believers are called to rejoice despite their circumstances. This is only possible through the Holy Spirit. I can rejoice because I know my life is secure in Christ because of His sacrifice, on the cross, on my behalf. So, even though I am heartbroken watching my friend journey through health issues, I can rejoice and find strength in Christ.
Pray Without Ceasing
Recently I have not had too much difficulty doing this. My friend, and others, are constantly on my mind. I find myself praying throughout the day and night. But constant prayer is more than actually saying or whispering a verbal prayer. Prayer without ceasing is staying in close fellowship with God; understanding and acknowledging my utter dependence on Him.
Give Thanks in Everything
This, at times, can be a bit more challenging. It’s a lot easier to be thankful about circumstances when things are going well. It is more difficult to give thanks when your world is falling apart. Again, this is only possible when I live from a place of surrender to God and His will; knowing that He works out all things for good. (Romans 8:28)
So this morning, as a new day dawns I come to God in un-ceasing prayer rejoicing and giving thanks.
My Prayer
Dear Lord,
Thank you for a brand new day. Thank your for the security I have in my eternal life with you and thank you for my friend’s eternal salvation as well. I ask that you continue to give her comfort from pain, healing in her body and peace in her spirit. I am so thankful for her friendship and the way she has blessed me over the years. Jesus, help me to love her well and be a blessing to her. In the Name of Jesus. Amen
