Sugar Fast Day 21
I am halfway through my fast. These last 20 days feel more like 20 months! Some days it feels as if the victory of Day 40 will never come. But God…I know that any strength I have is because of God. He is my strength. The Psalms are a great reminder:
“I will love You, O LORD, my strength. The LORD is my rock and my fortress and my deliverer; my God, my strength, in whom I will trust; my shield and the horn of my salvation, my stronghold.” (Psalm 18:1-2)
“It is God who arms me with strength, and makes my way perfect.” (Psalm 18:32)
“But You, O LORD, do not be far from Me; O My Strength, hasten to help Me!” (Psalm 22:19)
“The LORD is my strength and my shield; my heart trusted in Him, and I am helped; therefore my heart greatly rejoices, and with my song I will praise Him. The LORD is their strength, and He is the saving refuge of His anointed.” (Psalm 28:7-8)
“The LORD will give strength to His people; the LORD will bless His people with peace.” (Psalm 29:11)
“My flesh and my heart fail; but God is the strength of my heart and my portion forever.” (Psalm 73:26)
Strength To Keep Going
These are wonderful images. God is my rock and my fortress; my stronghold. I talked about sugar being a stronghold; something I cannot easily overcome. God as my stronghold gives me great comfort. His strength is something that is not easily get defeated. God’s strength is a shield, a protection from enemy attacks. I don’t have to fight my battles alone. I can rest in the truth that with God, I can overcome.
Today I am tired, but I know Jesus will give me rest (Matthew 11:28). I know “I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.” (Philippians 4:13) This is a great reminder that God gives me the power to endure anything, even 19 more days!! Therefore, today I will rest in the truths and promises of God to help me continue on this 40 day journey because I also know this:
“But Jesus looked at them and said to them, ‘With men this is impossible, but with God all things are possible.’” (Matthew 19:26)
God is my strength!
